Examples of
Floor and Tile Damage
HEAVED BASEMENT SLAB-ON-GRADE
Damaged tile in a basement due to slab-on-grade floor heave.
TILE DAMAGE IN SHOWER
Slab-on-grade movement in the basement can cause movement of the bathtub and as a result, tile damage.
TILE CRACKS
Tile cracks stem from factors like structural movement, subfloor problems, impact, or poor installation. Temperature changes and uneven subfloors can induce stress, leading to fractures. Impact or using subpar adhesives during installation are common causes. Identifying these issues is vital for effective prevention and repair.
WOOD FLOOR SEPARATION
Wood floor separation can occur due to fluctuations in humidity levels. As wood absorbs or releases moisture from the air, it expands and contracts. Over time, this movement may lead to gaps or separations between the wood planks. Poor installation practices, inadequate acclimatization of the wood before installation, or using insufficient expansion gaps can also contribute to separation.
CRACK IN TILE FLOORING IN BASEMENT
Cracks in tile flooring on the main floor can be the result of foundation movement. The natural movement of the building's foundation or changes in soil moisture levels can exert stress on the tiles, leading to cracks. Additionally, water infiltration through the basement floor can weaken the tiles over time. Proper drainage, foundation maintenance, and addressing water issues are essential for preventing and mitigating cracks in tile flooring in a basement.

FOUNDATION MOVEMENT
Foundation movement can happen due to various factors, including soil settlement, expansive clay soils, poor construction practices, or changes in moisture levels. As the soil beneath a foundation settles or expands, it exerts pressure on the foundation, leading to movement. Inadequate site preparation, improper drainage, or plumbing leaks can contribute to shifts in the foundation. The result can be damage to interior finishes such as tile.
CARPET DAMAGE
Carpet rips can occur due to various reasons, such as heavy foot traffic, dragging furniture, pet claws, or sharp objects. The fibers may weaken over time, leading to tears. Incorrect installation, inadequate carpet padding, or exposure to moisture can also contribute to ripping.
SEPARATION BETWEEN TILE COUNTERTOP AND WALL

SEPARATION BETWEEN FLOOR TILE
In a basement bathroom, tile damage is caused by heave in the concrete slab-on-grade floor.

GROUT
Grout occurs as a mixture of cement, water, and sand, forming a dense, fluid paste. When applied between tiles, it fills gaps and provides stability. Once it dries, grout becomes a solid, durable material, preventing tiles from shifting and enhancing the overall strength and appearance of tiled surfaces. Proper application and curing are crucial for achieving resilient and long-lasting grout between tiles.
